Issue: How do I rotate my images?

How to fix images that have uploaded looking "turned" the wrong way.

Sometimes an image that appears right-side up on your computer, can appear upside down or sideways once you upload it to your File Manager (similarly - if you were to upload it to social media or an attachment in an email, etc.)

Why does this happen?

1) The reason for this is that some computers will automatically rotate images that are not the correct way up when you view them. So when you open the image to view it, even though it is actually upside down or turned in the file, your computer will show it to you as right-side up.

To fix this, you will need to open the file in an image editor on your computer and rotate the image by clicking the right or left "turn" arrows as needed.  Then RE-SAVE the image and upload that version.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Occasionally (and especially with images taken via smart phone) - the image file itself may have data embedded on the file that tells the website that the "long" side of the photo is "up".  Again - your computer may show this image (or image thumbnail) to you as "right side up" - even when the data file of the image will force a rotation when uploaded.

In this case you will need to open the image and rotate it 180 degrees right or left - OR - may even need to rotate a seemingly "right side up" image a FULL 360 degrees (all the way around and back to "right side up" again) to get the data file to save correctly.  Save the rotated image and upload that newly saved version to your File Manager.

2) If this does NOT fix the issue and the image is still importing to File Manager "rotated" or "turned" - the most common reason is that the file you are attempting to upload is too large.

To Fix:

We recommend using a free tool like https://compressor.io to first reduce the overall image file size and save it as a smaller file on your computer in the orientation you would like to see it online.

Then when you upload that smaller file - it should be turned the right way.

3) Another reason this could be happening is that you are using a different browser (i.e. Safari, Microsoft Edge, Firefox etc.) to the ShinePages' recommended browser - Google Chrome.

To Fix: Only use Google Chrome when building your site in ShinePages.
