Help! My images appear pixelated or "fuzzy"

How to troubleshoot issues with unsharp images

First step: If you are using any other browser besides Chrome - first switch to Chrome when working in the Builder.

Second step: In most cases, images that appear crisp, clear, and "normal" before you upload them, but "fuzzy" or "pixelated" when added to your site are either too LARGE or too SMALL for the space they are in.

Low-quality, low-image-size .jpg images, when stretched across a larger block or container may appear fuzzy.

On the flip side, images that are too large may appear pixelated due to compression.

As a general rule of thumb - you want to use clear, crisp images that are smaller than 1MB - closer to 500KB would be even more ideal.

It's best to use images that are just big enough to fit the space and not larger.

To do this you can reduce the overall dimensions of the image using a free tool like picmonkey.com (shouldn't need anything "longer" than 1200px in most cases) and then in addition to changing the actual dimensions, you can also use a free tool like https://compressor.io to reduce the overall image file size without reducing image quality.

Many stock photos when downloaded come in very large file sizes. We suggest downloading a smaller version if possible (ie: on pexels.com you can choose to download the "original size" or "large, medium or small" images. In most cases the "medium" should work just fine.)

To keep your site extra light and speedy you can further reduce that file size via compressor.io as well. Upload only that smaller, compressed file to your File Manager.

ShinePages DOES compress image files sizes to keep pages loading quickly - however when you start with JUST the smallest size you actually need vs. very large image files - this makes everything run faster and smoother and you can avoid fuzzy or pixelated images.

Third step: Also "stretching" vs. "un-stretching" the image (within the image settings) can do that - based on the orientation and size of the image vs. the size of the "container" it is trying to fit inside of the space. Check the button to “Stretch” or “Un-stretch” the image.
