IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT DISCOUNT CODES

1) CHECKOUT WIDGET:

Your System/Store Checkout Page (OR freestanding Checkout Widget) must have "Allow Discounts" set within the Checkout Widget's Settings in order for any Discount Codes you create to be manually applied by your customers.

2) ALLOW WITH OTHER DISCOUNTS:

If you'd like your Discount Code to be used on products that may be "On Sale" (ie: have a discounted price) - then be sure to mark "Allow with other Discounts" within the Discount Code setup area.

Note:

a) If you select "Allow with other discounts" AND "Apply Automatically" - only the greater discount amount (either the sale price of the product or the discount code amount) will be applied upon checkout.

b) If you select "Allow with other discounts" and leave "Apply Automatically" UNCHECKED - then your customers will be able to MANUALLY apply the discount code to the already discounted sale price.

Examples:

-If you have a $100 product, and it is currently "on sale" with a sale price of $80, and your discount code is set to be a 10% Discount Code automatically applied - it will NOT stack discounts. The greater of the two discounts will apply to the checkout ie: the total will remain at $80 (since $80 is a greater discount than 10% off $100 or $90)

-If the 10% discount code is set to be manually applied instead, your customers would be able to input the discount code themselves and get 10% off the already discounted sale price of $80 - ie: they CAN stack discounts - the total would be $72.

3) APPLY AUTOMATICALLY

Discounts can be set to "Apply Automatically" (meaning there will be no actual "Discount Code" created and nothing will need to be manually input by your customers at checkout.  You can set this Discount Code to be applied Automatically to specific PRODUCTS, CATEGORIES or MEMBER GROUPS.

However, please note that if selling a Subscription Product - certain rules apply.

See this article for full details on discounting Subscription Products:

Discounting Subscription Products Rules

-Rule to Apply Discount to ALL RECURRING PAYMENTS on Subscription Products:

To apply the discount to ALL payments in the subscription or installment payment plan - both the first AND recurring payments - the discount code should be set to "apply automatically".

-Rule to Apply Discount to FIRST PAYMENT ONLY on Subscription Products:

To apply the discount to the FIRST payment only - the discount code must be applied manually. (ie: the customer needs to input the discount code themselves in the checkout.)

To do this - leave the "Apply automatically" checkmark UNCHECKED within the Discount Code settings screen.

NOTE:  you may NOT set the first month "Free" on a Subscription Payment product - however you can charge a very small amount for the first month - such as $1 or $7 - see this article for more information:
