How to Integrate Stripe as a Payment Provider
And Enabling Payment Methods within Stripe
In order to accept online credit cards using the Stripe Online payment gateway, use the following steps to connect your Stripe account to ShinePages:
Step 1: From your STORE tab, go to the SETTINGS Menu (on left hand side) and then click on PAYMENTS. Click the Button to "Add Payment Provider"
(Store>Settings>Payments>Add Payment Provider)
Step 2: Select Stripe from the list of Payment ProvidersStep
Step 3: Select your Stripe account from the next screen:
That's it! You should be connected!
The Stripe integration allows for a secure connection between your store and Stripe, eliminating the need for passing any API keys. Connecting to Stripe will happen with a single click via Single Sign On authorization in Stripe.
- The ability to see, track, and follow up on abandoned carts (please see below related articles on this).
- Existing subscriptions and authorizations will continue to work without any issues.
- 25+ payment methods will be now available, including iDeal, SEPA debit, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna, Afterpay/Clearpay, and more.
- More payment methods will be available for subscriptions (i.e. iDeal, SEPA debit, etc.).
- Future payment methods added to Stripe will be automatically available for all customers to use (if enabled in their Stripe account settings).
PLEASE SEE IMPORTANT GUIDELINES ON PAYMENT METHODS IN STRIPE BELOW ⬇️
Note - if you had connected Stripe prior to January 25, 2023 - you may see the following pop-up screen when you login to your ShinePages Builder account.
This process takes just a few seconds:
-Click "Reconnect Stripe"
-Select your Stripe account on the next screen
Your Stripe connection should now be updated!
Note that there is no longer a need to copy and paste API keys. Your Stripe Settings area under STORE > SETTINGS > PAYMENTS > STRIPE will look like this:
Important: with the Stripe update that happened 1/25/2023 - it is recommended (though not necessary) that all ShinePages customers using Stripe will be asked to reconnect their Stripe account. Reconnecting will not affect anyone's payments and store performance and will take only a few seconds. Our current way of connecting via API keys will be deprecated and not available to new users.
When reconnecting Stripe, our integration name will appear on the Stripe authorization screen as "Pay Connect".
Enabling Payment Methods within Stripe
To have these payment options available in your store checkout:
PLEASE MAKE SURE OF THE FOLLOWING:
1) You have enabled the payment method
2) Once you’ve enabled your payment method - from the dropdown menu - you have clicked on “Your Store”
3) Make sure that this payment method is available for use in your country
4) If you are selling a subscription / recurring payment product and the payment method does not show up in your checkout - make sure that said payment method allows for subscription / recurring payments
PLEASE NOTE: You will only see the payment methods show up in your checkout page when previewing your site or viewing your site live - NOT IN BUILDER MODE VIEW.
Concerns re: New Stripe Restrictions as of May 2024:
Please note that while the language in Stripe's new "Prohibited and Restricted Businesses" rules may SEEM that they will not allow people to sell digital products thru their platform - that is NOT true.
We have been assured by Stripe Support that legitimate digital products such as e-books, online courses ARE allowed and accepted. (as long as the content is not "prohibited content such as pornography or harassment, etc.)
